Our story

Welcome to our story, where we share a bit of the journey of how C3 Queenstown came to be.

In May of 2012 Pastors Andrew and Alana Waples moved to the Whakatipu from Whangaparaoa on the Hibiscus Coast, north of Auckland to plant a new C3 Church here in the Wakatipu. C3 Queenstown had humble beginnings, meeting from November 2012 in the St Johns Ambulance rooms in Frankton, forming an intimate bunch of people passionate about building a vibrant community focused church for the locals of the Wakatipu.

We are known in our community for being real, having integrity, being generous and building authentic relationships, to show people the love of Jesus. “I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Jesus, John 13:34-35.

At C3 Queenstown we love people wholeheartedly, we desire for people to get to know Jesus personally and to find community through genuine connection in our Church family. We are committed to seeing people grow and discover purpose and hope in their lives. We believe in building a vibrant local Church that adds value to the community of the Wakatipu and beyond.

our pastors

Pastors Andrew and Alana Waples are passionate about people getting to know Jesus personally, to find community through genuine connection in our Church family and are committed to seeing people grow and discover purpose in Jesus.  They believe in building a vibrant local Church that adds value to the community of Queenstown-Lakes and beyond.  Andrew and Alana both currently work part time for Church and in the community, also raising their three children Jacob (13), Elle (12) and Reuben (8).

Pastors Andrew & Alana Waples have lived in Queenstown since May 2012.  Andrew grew up in Southland and lived in Queenstown in the early 2000's before moving to Auckland to study, where he met Alana, who grew up on the Hibiscus Coast, north of Auckland.  They met in 2004 whilst leading at Peter Snell Youth Camp and were married in March 2006, basing themselves on the Hibiscus Coast.  Starting their family soon after, they continuing in leadership at C3 Church Hibiscus Coast, where they have led and pastored in a number of areas... Dinner Parties, Primal Youth, C3 Kids, Sound & AV, events and programming.  In 2009 they said yes to the pull on their hearts and calling from God to move to Queenstown and establish a C3 Church there; they spent an additional three years ministering and training in a variety of roles before moving.
Nine months into starting C3 Queenstown, on 6 August 2013 their family was devastated by the death of their 2 year, 10 month old daughter Violet, who unexpectedly wandered from their lakefront home in Kelvin Heights and drowned in Lake Whakatipu.

Ps Andrew and Alana are happy to talk about their daughter Violet and their experience of grief, the peace of God that surpasses human understanding and the hope of Heaven that we have through Jesus Christ and how keeping in step with the Holy Spirit helps to get through the tough times.

our global story

C3 Queenstown is part of the C3 Global Movement of Churches founded by Ps Phil and Chris Pringle. Ps Phil and Chris moved from New Zealand to Sydney, Australia in 1980 and set out to start a contemporary Church with vibrant music and relevant messages. Since then, as well as pastoring C3 Sydney, they sent muchloved friends and like-minded church builders out to plant churches around the world, now with over 500 churches in 64 countries.

The C3 movement is committed to healthy relationships and connection between ministers and churches. Our leaders meet locally, nationally and globally and online for prayer, conferences, training and time to simply connect. Our priority as a movement is to empower Senior Pastors and facilitate a culture of community, because we believe that life is better together.

As an international family you are able to walk into any C3 around the world and feel at home. We are united with Christ in His vision, therefore our mission is to save the lost, make disciples and build His Church and our vision for you is that you know Jesus, find community and discover your purpose as part of your church family.

Together, we have a dream of seeing 1 million people in our C3 congregations around the world every weekend. The C3 of the future will be even more vibrant, diverse and energetic than it is now. As we look to the future, we’re excited about all that God is doing and all that he will do.
